Description
Normandy, located on the northern coast of France, is a region rich in history, culture and natural beauty. It offers a diversity of landscapes, from the D-Day beaches to charming coastal villages, historic cities and remarkable natural sites.
Start your trip in the city of Rouen, famous for its impressive Gothic cathedral, immortalized by Claude Monet, and the medieval quarter with its half-timbered houses. Be sure to visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which houses a collection of works by masters such as Monet, Van Gogh and Delacroix.
Continue your exploration to Honfleur, a picturesque port with colorful houses that inspired many Impressionist artists. Stroll along the old basin, discover the art galleries, and enjoy a meal in one of the many seafood restaurants that line the harbor.
The D-Day beaches, such as Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, are poignant places of memory. Visit the Caen Memorial, a museum dedicated to World War II and the D-Day landings, for a deeper understanding of these historical events. The American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer is a place of contemplation and tribute to the soldiers who fell during the war.
Mont-Saint-Michel, an architectural marvel and one of France’s most iconic sites, is a must-see. This steep rock, crowned by a medieval abbey, emerges from the sea at low tide and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Explore its narrow streets and admire the spectacular views of the surrounding bay.
The Bayeux region is famous for its medieval tapestry that tells the story of William the Conqueror’s conquest of England in 1066. Also visit Bayeux Cathedral and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this charming city.
For nature lovers, the Alabaster Coast offers spectacular cliffs, especially in Étretat, where the natural rock formations and sea arches are a real spectacle. The area is ideal for hiking along the coast and enjoying breathtaking coastal scenery.
Normandy is also renowned for its regional products, including cheese, cider and calvados. Be sure to visit a farm or cider house to discover these local specialties.
